Gibraltar Gardens
I am writing to share a rather strange experience from a Friday Night at the Gibraltar Gardens in
Norwich. After reading about the pub/restaurant a group of us decided to give it a try.
After being seated, amongst confusion of whether we wanted a table for four or five, (five
please, my Girlfriend and I, another couple and a late arrive) we were put under some pressure to
order (resulting in the late arriver deciding against the idea). When the food arrived
the waitress set fire to the napkin still in one of the spare glasses. An easy
mistake to make, particularly at your second attempt! The embers of which were blown all over my
girlfriends dinner. Apologies were made and the rest of the food brought out
'can you change this one please'
'yes no problem'
2 minutes later a 'fresh' Pasta dish arrives, slightly warm. My Girlfriend was put off by the
previous incident and therefore had lost her appetite. We notified the waitress staff of
our unhappiness and asked for my Girlfriends meal to be taken away.
Throughout the rest of the main course we were pretty much avoided, except for
'Do you want to see the desert menu or is that a stupid question?'
Nice touch!!
We were very surprised to see that when the bill arrived it included all the dishes, in my
opinion that was one too many, I tried to appeal to the restaurant managers better half, clearly
he didn't have one but not many teenagers do!
Eventually along came the general manager she defended the 'restaurants' position valiantly 'our
kitchen staff are not liars', excuse me where did that come from? It was clear we
weren't getting anywhere and the only way out was to foot the whole bill.
'I've really enjoyed the evening I must make sure I recommend you to all my friends an colleagues'
Only to be replied by the silver tonged lady of charm, the manager herself ,'I'm sorry but we
don't really need your type in here’'
So if you are the type of person who enjoys good food in pleasent surroundings with friendly
service then I'm afraid the Gibralter Gardens/Fawlty towers just isn't for you.
