Diary week nine

Week nine Feb 25th - Mar 4th

The weeds are the first to take advantage of spring and now is the time to start hoeing in earnest. The vegetable garden will still have some heavy digging left to do, where the last of the sprouts, spinach, cauliflower and celery have been over-wintering. One method of dealing with this bulky vegetable matter is to dig it into the ground being prepared for the potato crop, although keen composters will be busy turning the compost heap and eagerly adding new green matter after the long dormant winter.
