Fred Lasslett War Diaries. Tells the remarkable story of survival and of the enduring Australian spirit, in the face of adversity. These letters reveal a spirit, unshaken in the face of long imprisonment, failed escape attempts and dreary conditions in the Japanese work camp. Grim, unquenchable, uplifting - sure to inspire.

Odd laslett bits and pieces
There is some debate as to the origins of the surname laslett. Some think (maybe because it has the tell tail double 't' at the end ) it is Huguenot. But it is not listed in this Huguenot surname index. Others believe that it is a Kent misspelling of Lacey (Gorden Lasslett says it is the other way around) or some other surname see this page in genealogy.com It's origin certainly seems to be local to the South Eastern corner of Kent in the UK. Correspondence on the origin of the Laslett family name.

Natasha Laslett writes "My dad (Richard Laslett) said that our surname originated from a town called ESLETTES in Northern France, we were then called de l’Eslettes… which became Laslett. J it’s a theory but Eslettes exists http://maps.google.fr/maps?hl=fr&tab=wl
