More about the Weird and Wonderful Plant Company The Weird and Wonderful Plant Company is a mail order plant nursery dedicated to the strange and dramatic, the unusual, the old-fashioned, the gothic and the decidedly rare. We offer plants with fascinating histories, some grown since medieval times, Victorian curiosities, gothic black flowers, dark foliage, variegated foliage, mutated foliage, wildflowers and ancient medicinal herbs. In particular, we specialise in Aquilegia, Viola, grasses, and herbaceous perennials. We also offer a small selection of species shrubs, trees, even novelty vegetables. Our aim, as always, is to be as “different” from other garden centres and nurseries as possible, and so offer something unusual for the discriminating plant lover. If a plant is not weird, it must be wonderful. Most or our varieties are one or the other and frequently, both! All propagation at the nursery, is done by hand, sometimes, only a few seeds germinate or we have limited numbers of stock plants to divide. Some varieties are available only in small quantities and may sell out quite quickly. When ordering please bear in mind that availability may be limited, so don’t wait too long!! For weird and wonderful gift ideas for gardens and gardeners across the UK, who are bored by the usual fare of garden centre plants, why not indulge in our illustrated online catalogue with its wide range of specialist plant varieties? If you are a keen gardener who loves plants, we'd like to welcome you to the world of Weird and Wonderful Plants! We are a small nursery based in Scotland, in the county of East Lothian, an area well known for its rich red soils and sunny maritime climate. We are now into our fourth season here at Fenton Barns. We offer an ever growing range of exciting weird and wonderful garden plants, all supplied with care and planting instructions. We offer plants with fascinating histories (some grown since medieval times), Victorian curiosities, gothic black flowers, dark foliage, variegated foliage, mutated foliage, wildflowers and ancient medicinal herbs. We are looking forwards to repeating our “Glasgow Art School” inspired exhibit at Gardening Scotland 2004 (4th-6th June at Ingliston, Edinburgh), where we hope to display plants with blue and pastel flowers, eryngium or sea hollies, especially the rarer species and more uncommon varieties. We now have available Eryngium in several different varieties, including the much sought after “Miss Willmott’s Ghost”, rapier-leaved Eryngium eburneum and Eryngium varifolium with amethyst flowers and attractive white-veined foliage. We also have a great range of black-flowered perennials and several new aquilegias (including a new authentic Victorian strain). For great gift ideas, why not try one of our value-for-money themed collections? You can choose from Victoriana, Gothic, Cool Shades or Sun Worshippers. May we take the opportunity to wish a great gardening season ahead |
